What is Art?
What is art? Well, I don’t know. Or maybe I do.
If you look at pure definition, art is commonly regarded as something that was created out of the creator’s creative mind. It could be a movie, a song, a book, a painting, or anything else. If you look deeply among these art forms, one common element is that all these emerge from the imagination of a person. And for me, that imagination is art.
I have been imagining various things since childhood. As a kid, I imagined myself as a superhero saving the world or a famous sportsperson representing the country. I used to think of dinosaurs, aliens, car racing, and all sorts of things. As I grew up ,things have changed, and I don’t necessarily dream of myself in a fantastical world. Rather I try to visualize academic concepts. This may sound boring at first, but when I start to imagine such realms, it quickly develops my interest. For example, while doing AP Physics C this year, I was sometimes confused by the complexities. But that is when I built an image of the mechanisms in my brain: an electron appeared in front of me, and as it moved, electric and magnetic forces acted upon it; then it collided with a proton; lost some energy; and so on. This visualization not only helped me in physics, but guided my solutions while coding too as I saw those data structures and algorithms in front of my eyes.
This kind of imagination may appear vastly different from the imagination required to create a painting or a song at first. But you know what's common: the ability of such imagination to create an extraordinary product. A writer’s imagination gives birth to the greatest movie of all time, while an engineer’s creativity creates that unprecedented solution that shapes the future of humanity. And if you look through this lens, every product - whether a work of literature or establishment of a financial institution - fits within the definition of art because everything’s basis comes through someone’s imagination. This artistry is what I have possessed throughout my life, and this is what has guided me even in the most difficult circumstances. Its basis, which is imagination, is what everyone holds, and thus everyone's an artist. With just your imagination and hardwork, you can procreate inventions that positively affect, and even change, this world, and you have the ability to do everything. As I further advance in my life, I will maintain this creative element within me which I believe to be Art.
