The Superman - a hero made by himself?

When I was younger, about 7 - 8 years old, I had a lot of hot wheel cars. I loved to play with them, and wanted to drive them someday. But one day, my parents brought a figure of Superman. As soon as I saw that, I forgot about the hot wheels car I had. I liked that Superman figure so much that I virtually stopped playing with any other toys.

I liked how superman was the savior of the world, fighting all the villains to protect humanity. I was very fond of the powers he had: flying, ice breath, laser eyes, and so much more. Even when my parents bought me "Injustice" for XBox, I rarely chose any other character than Superman. I had a couple other figures of movie characters, like Batman, but Superman was the best because it was the first hero I had seen.

But I began to wonder why Superman is the only one saving the world. Sure there are other superheroes, but superman always seems to have work to get done alone. Is he saving the world alone because there is nobody to support him? Well, I realized that although Superman is shown to solve the world alone, he is not saving the world alone - he had his support staff behind him.

The superhero creators always for some reason seem to show that a single person has powers so huge that he or she can change the world. Sure, they might want to show that a determined individual can bring change in the world, but there is nobody who has changed society alone. Even in history. You might think that historical figures like MLK changed society by their own power, but did they? In order for Civil rights to be implemented in the US, there were millions of supporters behind MLK, and their teamwork was something that changed society. So maybe there should be a team of superheroes that is saving the world. It will tell the kids about the importance of teamwork. But should companies really change their products after so many years? Well, that is a question for you to answer in the comments.

  1. I like how you used toys to connect to a much bigger topic, that one person cant really change the world. The use of MLK was a good example that helps the reader easily grasp what you're trying to say.
